The congregation of the Vermont Avenue Christian Church will worship in the present edifice for the last time tomorrow, as on October 19 thair new church, on Thomas Circle, will be dedi- cated and the congregation will then become known as the National City Christian Church. In observance of this last day in the old church the pastor, Dr. Earle Wilfley, will speak on “Milestones” and will give a brief historical sketch of this church, now 86 yvears old. James A Garfield when President of the Tnited States, worshiped in a small frame chapel on the site on Vermont avenus ‘where the present church is located. COREY TO PREACH AT COLUMBIA CHURCH Acting Head of Christian Mission Society Is Here During Convention, Dr. S. 5. Corey will preach tomorrow at 11 o'clock at the Columbia Heights Christian Church on “The World of Today and the Church.” Dr. Corey is acting president of the United Chris- Missionary Society and is in the city to attend the General Convention of the Disciples of Christ. Dr. Mary Longdon, 40 years a sur- geon in India, will speak at 8 o'clock tomorrow evening. A reception to a group of Indian missionaries will fol- low the evening services. A junior church has been organized. which meets at 11 am. William Bond will address this group. 2 Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. a tea will be given by the State Board of Wom- en’s Missionary Societiss of the Dis- trict of Columbia to the presidents and secretaries of the Disciples of Christ in | the United States.
