The seizures by customs - collectors are adding an additional burden to already crowded Federal court dockets, and rather than wait a year or two for a decision the bureau is endeavoring to speed up the procedure by having had assented to confiscation, but at least six, including the two in Chicago, have determined to test the new law, which was a compromise between the ooposing views of Senators Cutting of New Mexico and Smoot of Utah. As in the prohibition enforcement act, the obscene book statute has a *“five-and-ten"” provision. Any Govern- ment officer found guilty of connivance in the importation of such literature is subject to & fine of not more than 85,000 and imprisonment for not more than 10 years, or both.
