BALTIMORE, September 25.—With official investigations at an end, the body of Maxwell C. Byers, president of the Western Maryland Railway, slain ‘Tuesday in his locked office by Dudley G. Gray, the traffic vice president, who then took his own life, was borne on a special train to his old home at Point | Pleasant, W. Va. There the funeral will be held toda) | aray’s body was scheduled to leave in a private car for his native Columbus, Ohlo, where his funeral will be held to- | morrow morning. A coroner’s verdict of murder and suicide was found. The coroner after questioning Mrs, Gray and examining correspondence, expressed the opinion that the differences between the two men antedated the last few days. Gray, it was said at the general of- fices of the railroad, as the result of recent illness, had been 80 nervous re- cently that the slightest slip or diverg- ence from routine was sufficlent to up- set him. ‘There were no witnesses to the shoot- ing in Byers’ private office, separated by a partition and a corridor from a num- ber of secretaries and stenographers. The tragedy disorganized the West- ern Maryland headquarters here. T. Herbert Fee, assistant gensral freight |agent, collapsed when returning from New York, when he was told of the | shooting, and was taken home in a pri- | vate ambulance. The offices were closed today until 1 o'clock. Youth Admits Killing Woman.
