KAUFFMANN DIES IN SANITARIUM Funeral Prominent Washington Insurance Man. Rudolph Dartnell Kauffmann, who had at several different times resided in Washington and who had made his home here for the past year, died Tues- day night in a Virginia sanitarium. Funeral services were held at 11 o'clock this morning at the undertaking estab- lishment of Almus R. Speare, 1623 Con~ necticut avenue, the officiating clergy- man being Rev. William L. Mayo of Rock Creek parish. Interment has not been decided upon pending the receipt of advices from his immediate family, who reside in Porto Rico. Attended Central High School. Mr. Kauffmann was born in Lima, Peruy, in 18783, the son of Benjamin Har- rison Kauffmann, then residing in that Kauff- mann. Charles Evans Hughes, Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, tonight will be presented with a jeweled badge of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity at a banquet at Wardman Park Hotel, where' delegates from 55 collegiate chapters and more than 100 alumni are holding the ninety-sixth annual con- vention of the fraternity. Fifty years ago the young man who was to attain international fame at- tended his first convention of Delta Upsilon as a delegate from the Brown University chapter. During that con- vention he drew up a resolution on be- half of the fraternity indorsing the candidacy of James A. Garfleld, then president of Delta Upsilon, who was at that time a nominee for President of the United States. Since then Chief Justice Hughes has served three terms as president of Delta Upsilon, Duzm.hhu administration he signed the -charters of 25 chapters of the fraternity. In addition to Chief Justice Hughes, speakers at the banquet intlude the following alumni members of the fra- ternity: Secretary of Agriculture Ar- thur M. Hyde, Pruldcnt Percival D.
