A—10 PROBE KIDNAPING | OF ROAD WITNESS Shreveport Policemen Say Irby Was Taken From Hotel by State Employes. By the Assoclated Press. SHREVEPORT, La., September 5.— Authorities today investigated a report by three Shreveport policemen, who said Samuel Irby, former State High- way Commission employe and recent witness at an inquiry into that depart- ment, was forcibly taken from his hotel room here Wednesday night by six members of the State Identification Bu- Teau. Neither Irby nor James Terrell, a eompanion, has been seen here since. Mrs. Irby, in New Orleans, said she nad heard nothing from her husband. Irby testified at a secret investiga- tion of the Highway Commission in the chamber of Judge George H. Fav- rot of the East Baton Rouge District Court. He later announced his inten- tion of suing Gov. Huey P. Long and ©O. K. Allen, highway chairman, for $50,000 damages for allegedly slander- 0!:; utterances made against him to his wife. Policemen Ogden, Leach and Carris said they were sent to Irby's roonf Wed- nesday after he had telephoned for pro- tection. ‘They said six members of the State Identification Bureau entered and one searched Irby's luggage, while Irby told him that “he wouldn't find what he wanted, as it wasn't there.” Then, the officers asserted, Irby and Terrell were take. from the hotel. Five of the six members of the State Identification Bureau named by the po- lice as taking Irby from the hotel were reported out of Shreveport last night and the sixth said he had no comment to make.
