J., July 2—With wet planks in both the Republican and Democratic platforms, relegating prohi- bition to the background as an issue, lines were drawn today to fight out the New Jersey senatorial battle on ratifi- cation of the London naval treaty. The treaty was pushed into the fore- ground yesterday when the Democratic State Convention adopted a resolution supporting Alexander Simpson, its sen- ratification of the naval pact. Ambassador Dwight W. Morrow, the Republican candidate, who was a dele- gate to the Naval Conference, has urged ratification. The resolution opposing ratification qualified Simpson’s position by adding the phrase, “Unless, confidential corre- spondence between 'the United States George Washington University, and Great Britain is made public.” The wet plank was hammered into the Republican platform with the gavel of Gov. Morgan F. Larson, chairman of the convention, despite the effort of State Scnator S. Rusling Leap. a dry, to have adopted a resolution striking it from the platform. DR.
