By the Associated Press Retail stores in the United States had a larger number of workers employed during April this year than during the same month last year. This was the Iresult of prelimtary tabulation of the STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C, FRIDAY, returns from 44,000 retail establish- ments completed by the Census Bu- reau and reported yesterday to Secretary of Commerce Lamont. In practically all other fields of inquiry it has been in- dicated that employment would be found to be less this year than last. ‘The total number of employes work- ing during April in the 44,000 establish- ments examined during the course of |the department’s census of retail dis- tribution was 388,424, while during April last year the same group em- ployed but 387,034 persons.
