WAR VET KILLS BRIDE AND SELF) Bodies of Canadian Soldier and Wife Found in Car in Hlinois. By the Assoclated Press. GLENCOE, Ill, May 24.—A Canadian war veteran ané .us bride of a few days ses last night in an automobile over looking Lake Michigan, clasped hands, and then consummated what police be- lieve to have been a suicide pact. Each had been shot once in the right temple. A pistol was in the man’s right d. Papers in his pocket identified him as ‘Willlam Cochrane Murray, 30 years old, of 58 Avenue road, Toronto, Ontario. ‘There was & wedding ring on the finger of the girl, who appeared to be about 25_years old. Police learned that Murray had en- tered the United States at Detroit Mon- day, coming to Illinois the following day. The couple registered at a Chi- cago Hotel. Thursday night they drove to Glencoe and parked their coupe in the spot where it was found last night. A policeman, who recalled questioning them, said they explained they were tourists and were “just sight-seeing.” The coupe returned last night and the officer observed the man and woman chatting and laughing. A physician, who treated Murray at the Chicago Hotel, said the man had told him he was a war veteran, wounded in action, and that he later had worked as a mechanical engineer in South Af- rica. The young woman said she was a nurse educated at Queen's College in England. e ‘Tourists passing through Boulogne, France, in a recent week numbered 27,682, breaking all records, and the Righest figure for one day was 5,335. PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti, May 24— Former President Louis Borno, who made way for Provisional President Eu- gene Roy earlier this month, suddenly left Haiti with his son Henri in an air- plane yesterday for Havana, Cuba. Preparations for the departure were made with the utmost secrecy. Only the President’s immediate family and Brig. Gen. John H. Russell, Amrican high commissioner in Haiti, knew before 11 am. that the ex-President was going. It 1s M. Borno's first flight. He will sail from Havana for France at an early date, after being joined by his wife, who will leave Port au Prince in a few days. No threats are known to have been directed against the person of the ex- President, who had been for years a stormy figure in Haitian politics, but the press in general had been bitterly tlf-lckln] him. Before leaving he did not disclose his lans for the future, saying only that e desired rest, recreation and a quiet life with his family after years of labor for his country. BORNO LANDS AT CAMAGUEY. Air Officials Say He Is on Way to France Via U. S. HAVANA, Cuba, May 24 (#)—Louis Borno, ex-President of Haltl landed at Camaguey last night after a secret de- parture by airplane from Port au Prince, Haiti. He will reach Havana by air today. Pan-American Airways offi- cials said he was going to the United States and would ultimately sail for France. AIRPLINE IS HEARSE FOR COL. PABLO SIDAR IAlhel of Mexico's Aviation Hero Taken to National Palace in Rite. By the Associated Press. MEXICO CITY, May 24 —The ashes of Col. Pablo Sidar, Mexico's aviation hero, who was killed a week ago off the coast of Costa Rica when his plane fell into the sea, came back to the Capital city yesterday as thousands of black-clad citizens mourned. ‘The airplane Mayab, bearing an urn containing the noted flyer's ashes, ap- peared over the city just before moon. It was accompanied by 12 Mexican military planes and the plane which Capt. Lewis A. Yancey and two fellow Americans intend to fly to Buenos Aires. ‘Then the Mayab and the Yancey plane swooped to land on Valbuena Field while the army escort and 15 other army planes roared in maneuvers over the city. A crowd estimated at 50,000 was at the fleld, held back by 1,000 soldiers. Among them were 5,000 school children dressed in black and carrying flowers. All of the soldiers wore black arm- bands and most of the civilians present were garbed in black. A committee headed by Gen. Joaquin Amaro, minister of war, and the Costa Rican charge d'affaires placed the urn in an airplane that was to serve as a hearse. It was the Ejercito Mexicano, the ship in which Col. Sidar toured Latin America last year. Draped in black, the airplane headed the procession which started for the National Palace. Narrow streets were avolded, so the wings would not scrape the sides of buildings. As the combination airplane-hearse neared the center of the city persons along the line of march heaped flowers upon it. Eventually the body of the plane was hardly visible. A huge crowd was assembled on the % | plaza in front of the Palace and Presi- dent Ortiz Rubio, with his ministers, was waiting inside to receive the urn. It was transferred from the airplane to the palace in a scene of solemunity and there it will remain until the funeral, ‘which probably will be today. DR.
