By the Associated Press. o CALCUTTA, India, April 2—Pive men were killed in rioting yesterday which followed a passivc resistance demon- stration against enforcement of & new rule restraining carters from taking out buffaloes during the hottest hours of the day. One Hindu was killed when police fired on a large crowd of carters who had gathered at the Calcutta end of Howrey Bridge. The crowd threw brick- bats at the police and injured three sergeants, Four more ‘were killed in rioting this afternoon . in' Harrison road, which is the usual storm quarter in this region. The district between Howrey Bridge and Harrison road presented the aspect of a battle scene and the streets were jammed with abandoned carts, many overturned and minus wheels.
