AMES, Iowa, March 24.—The notion that farmers dump corn on the market in Winter, when prices are lowest, is not_ true, says G. S. Shepherd of the dep-r'.menc of agricultural economics at Towa State College. A survey of grain marketing in Iowa, he says, revealed that the type of farm- ing in various sections seemed to have & definite bearing on the time and man- ner of corn sales. ‘The more important “cash corn” is as a source of income, the more likely it is to be sold in the Winter, when the owner needs money, without regard to future price outlook. Shepherd found that in the cash grain area, where most of Iowa's sur- plus corn is produced, farmers sell about half their crop in Winter and hold the | rest for the usual rise of about 15 cents & bushel in Summer. Fifteen cents is seven cents more than it costs to store corn for eight months, Shepherd says. The survey showed farmers in some sections market their corn wisely month by month, tudying the market and sell- ing at most opportune times. GENERAL GAS & ELECTRIC.
