A—14 FUNDAMENTALLY HONEST. y BURTIS THE FISHERMAN WHO MOVIES AND MOVIE PEOPLE J WANTED 70 BE BELIEVED Q BY MOLLIE MERRICK. HOLLYWOOD, March 21 (N.AN.A). =-They're calling her picture “What a ‘Widow!” and they're saying about her “What a girl!” She gets what she wants, and she goes after it with both hands. Gloria Swan- son has had singular and far-reaching cinema experience, and she's just begin- ning to scratch the glory field in talkie pictures. Vincent Youmans writes his first music to order for her next picture. Stage hits of this composer have been used in other talkie ventures, but this 1s his initial venture in a purely cinema ‘way. She has some music of Lehar tucked away in Vienna, freshly written, for the picture after this one. Things are caroming along in a gentle, sure fashion for the lady who seemed to have suf- fered an eclipse a little while back. James Gleason is writting her dia- , and you know what that means, either in Hollywood or Manhattan—it's a sign it will be good. Mack Sennett once said: “She’s not much good for eun.:.rd-gu comedies, but there’s a brain inside ti curves, and that girl is worked like a beaver during his brief after he glances over Europe and satis- fies himself that the little street cafes are doing a good business, and that Old ‘World architecture is just as satisfying as of yore. Although Frances Dade came to Hollywood heralded as Ronald Colman’s leading lady, she played a small part in the story which the British actor is making. She's a pretty little blond, reminis- cent of a lot of other pretty little blonds. She has something of May McAvoy about her. and a little of June Collyer in her smile. She's dainty and appeal- ing. And evidently she’s gone over, for a bid has been put in for her services by another producer, and she’s off on her second picture already. In a description of one of the new stage sets the press agent writes: “Bargoylian bric-a-brac of fantastic sizes and shapes perches on the window sills, tables and available niches.” | Just art moderne in Hollywood.
