FINANCIAL." - BANKS GIVENFACTS ON LOCAL BUILDING Operative Association Sends Out Data on Situation and Includes Forecast. BY EDWARD C. STONE. ‘The Builders’ Operative Association of the District of Columbia has sent to all bank officers and directors a full report on the present building situation here and the out- look for the re- mainder of 1930. Many of these facts were oon- tained in the re- presented at the meeting on January 31, which was attended by survey of apart- ments made in the every house built, when sold, how long it took to sell it, etc. The report also 8overs the per- centage of apartments vacant and estimates the amount of apartment house new construction needed when based on the population of the city. ‘The aim is to show how many new apartment houses can be absorbed each year, even if some builders do disregard the figures. On January 1 of this year, the report states, there were 750 houses and apart- ment units under construction, the low- est number being built at this time since 1923. These 750 additional houses and apartment houses are due to be completed by July 1. The association assumes that the reduced number of new buildings will take up some of the slack in present apartment buildings and the number of unsold new houses now on hand. On January 1 there were 1,116 new houses on hand, 200 more than in January, 1920. The as- soelation says that 90 of these have been taken off the market by being|. rented instead of sold. ‘The report states that the number of houses now bel finished is less than the number bei sold. For the first- two months of year it took an average of 10.7 months to sell a house, while in the same two months in 1929 it was 12.4 months. The asso- ch\‘.lon considers this an _indication houses are now sélling more qulek!y and in greater numbers than a year ago. Charts contained in the rem cover the city by ammu and the iinformation presented is sure to prove of unusual inmut to bankers. ‘Woman Assumes New Bank Dutles.’ Mrs. M. H. High- grade domestic bonds and the better grade of forelgn dollar credits went into | Se new high ground, some of them at their best prices since 1928.
