MARKET Steadiness in Quotations. Chickens Plentiful. Many (inquiries among wholesale egg dealers this morning elicited the in- formation that the product of the hennery was not yet plentiful and that prices were about what they were Satur- and probably lower prices tomorrow. In some instances this morning it was reported that anticipated shipments had falled to reach here, no explanation of the faflure of haulers to arrive with cargoes having been received. One of the heavier dealers said he was fortunate enough to get a ship- ment of 200 cases of eggs from the Shenandoah Valley yesterday, the ship- ment coming in response to an order telephoned Saturday. Current receipts this morning were quoted at 40 cents, hennery stock at 1 It was reported that a few sales brought prices in advance of quotations, while one dealer reported paying a shipper as low as 37 cents. Chickens Plentiful. Chickens were in such plentiful sup- ply that lower prices were reported, especially for Spring chickens and broil- ers, Live Spring chickens were quoted at 28 and 30 cents, dressed stock at 30 and 33 cents. Broilers, alive, were 32 and 33 cents, the dressed stock be- ing quoted at 35 and 36 cents. Dressed fowls were quoted at 28 and 30 cents, the live cnes at 25 and 26. Texas spinach was not received in the best condition, according to reports of dealers, and a wide range of prices was quoted. Some in poor condition sold as low as 75 cents a basket, best stock selling at $1.50 and $1.75. Kale was_plentiful and. cheaper. “Demand for greens this morning was not so heavy,” remarked a dealer. “It just seems that they have been so plentiful all Winter " that consumers are getting tired of them.” Increased receipts of strawberries, product of Florida growers, did not meet a lively demand. They have been very plentiful most of the time since the Christmas holiday season, accord- ing to dealers, and cheap for the sea- son of the year. 'l'he‘ were scarce during a brief pe- riod the past two weeks, but it is be- lieved there will be no more scarcity of the fruit the remainder of the Win- ter seazon.
