Al talking at once, with Blacky at their head, the Crows of the Green Porest headed for Blacky's nest. It was Blacky's old nest—the one he and Mrs. Blacky had used in the Spring.|Both were sitting very straight and They were very much excited, were those Crows. They were just like a lot of boys starting out for a good time. They expected to have a good time. You see, Blacky had told them he had found Hooty the Owl and Mrs. Hooty n of that old nest. As they drew near the tree in the Green Forest where the nest was hid- den Mrs. Blacky flew ahead. She wanted to be the first one there. As soon as she came in sight of that nest she began to caw at the top of her lungs, and it was a very angry caw; and all the other Crows knew that the Owls were still there. They spread out so as to form a circle around the tree and the nest; and every single Crow seemed to be trying to outscream every other Crow. Such a noise as they made! It didn't seem possible that they could caw any louder. Yet, when they got near enough to actually see Hooty and Mrs. Hooty the noise was doubled. Yes, sir; it was doubled! Daily Cross-Word Puzzle . They urged the others in, but themselves were careful not to get within striking distance of either of those angry Owls. Some of the other older Crows followed their example. Oh, they made a brave showing, did those young Crows! Now, all the time Hooty and Mrs. Hooty ' were growing more and more angry. They were not in the least noyed, but not afraid. All the boasting of those young Crows had no effect, excepting to make them angry. It was astonishing to see them turn their heads. No Crow had a chance to steal up behind either one. Some of those young Crows tried it and were startled to find themselves looking straight into those fierce yellow eyes. A lot of them drew themselves togethcr and flew straight at Hooty in a black cloud. Hooty merely hissed more angrily than ever. And when the Crows reached him they merely separated. some going one side and some the other. They didn't have the courage to really attack. Some of the older Crows who were watching sharply saw that Hooty was losing his temper very fast. Those Crows were wise old Crows. They had teased Owls before. They understood the signs. Very soon it would be safer to be somewhere else. (Copyright, 1930.) KENKLING A Woman’s Intuition! FREEMAN . Spoke in public. . Man’s nickname. . Accommodate. . Converted into soap. . Very dark. .
