Fla., February 5.—For a youthful musician whose talents have won his admiration, John D. Rockefeller, sr., has greater rewards than the customary dimes. ‘Twice within three days he sat at- tentively on the front seat at piano re- citals given by Miss Helen Pugh of Asheville, N. C. After the second con- cert he presented her with a large basket of red roses. Rockefeller refused to sit in a seat reserved for him in the middle of the hall, insisting on a front-row chair so he could “watch her fingers.” A Brahm's lullaby seemed to please him more than any of Miss Pugh's numbers. CAUSES $250,000 DAMAGE Blaze in Kentuc’ky Town Is Caused by Overheated Smoke- stack. By the Associated Press. LEXINGTON, Ky., February 5.—Fire starting from an overheated smoke- stack last night swept the redrying plant of the Southwestern Tobacco Co., & subsidfary of the Universal Leaf To- bacco Co, with a loss estimated at $250.000. Of the 700,000 pounds of tobacco in the plant 300,000 pounds were owned by the Liggett-Myers Tobacco Co. Of- ficials of the Southwestern and Liggett- Myers companies refused to estimate the damage, but declared it was covered by insurance. ACTRESS IS RECOVERING. LOS ANGELES, February 5 (B).— Mabel Normand, former screen actress, Who has been in a hospital for nearly a year suffering from tuberculosis, is mak- ing good headway toward recovery, her physician, Dr. E. C. Fishbaugh, said yesterday. She was informed yesterday of the death Monday of her father, Claude G. Normand, from pneumonia.
