FOUR PLAYS GIVEN - BY DRAMA GUILD Large Audience Attends First of Series of Presentations in Tournament. Playing to a large audience at the Columbia Heights Community Center, the Community Drama Guild of Wash- ington last might presented four plays, the first of a series of five in the one- act play tournament for 1930. Basing their decision on choice of play, direction, stage business and act- ing, Capt. George A. Bentley, U. 8. A.; Prof. William L. Corbin, Mrs. Alice Sig- worth Morse, Mrs. Willlam J. Peters and Miss Katherine Riggs, judges of the eliminary contest, will select the four st_plays, which will be repeated in the final contest February 7 at McKin- ley Auditorium. That night, individual awards will be made to the actor giving the best performance and to the cne | excelling in diction. In “The Fourth Mrs. Phillips,” by Carl Glick, the Park View Community Players prove the fallacy of pretending to be 30 years old when one is 60. | The Rebecca Dial Studio Players de- nounced a mother as an aid to catching a husband in “A Social Success,” writ- | ten and directed by Rebecca Dial. One husband sells for $200 a $1,000 | fur coat, which another husband's wife has taken from the store on approval. After a series of humorous incidents, the coat is recovered in “A Bargain's a Bargain,” written by Larry E. Johnson and presented by the dramatic unit of Senijor Luther League of Atonement Lu- ther Church. Susie, the dressmaker's dummy, wak- ing up to life, goes to the ball in old- fashioned clothes and makes a hit with the marriageable diplomat—all of which makes the dashing young girl of the story determine to become old-fashioned in her ways. Such is “Miss Skimp Sits Still.” by Alics M. Haven, presented by the Women's City Club drama unit. FLYER REACHES MANAGUA| 76-Year-Old Publisher Is on 14,000-Mile Air Trip. MIAMI. Fla.. TWO ZIONIST LEADERS TO GIVE TALKS HERE Rabbi Samuel Benjamin and Dr. Shmarya Levin to Address Meetings This Week. ‘Two Jewish leaders prominent in the Zionist movement will address Wash- ington audiences this week. Rabbi Samuel Benjamin of New York will speak at the Sixth Street Syna- gogue Friday night, and Dr. Shmarya Levin will be the principal speaker at & mass meeting at the Jewish Com- munity Center Sunday evening. Dr. Benjamin will discuss miracle healing with special reference to the alleged cures effected at the grave of the priest at Malden, Mass. He is the founder of the Cleveland Jewish Center and is prominent in various flelds of Jewish endeavor. Dr. Levin is said to have done more to spread the cause of Zionism than any other figure engaged in the Jewish homeland movement. He has made an annual piigrimage to the United States since 1807. He has been engaged in a historical study of the relative claims of the Jews and Arabs in Palestine, and it is this phase of the Zionist movement that he will discuss Sunday night. TEST PLANE WRECKED. TETERBORO, N. J, January 23 (#).—The first test of the new t air- malil plane manufactured by the Fokker company for the Western Air Express Co. ended yesterday when the ship failed to leave the ground and crashed into another plane. The plane was almost demolished when it caromed from the parked ship into an auto and then into the side of a building. VISITORS SEE HOOVER. Electric Light Men Call at Execu- tive's Office.
