B—10 HOOVER PLEDGES D IN DISPUTES President Offers Building Trades Council Help in Settling Disagreements. By (he Associated Press. TAMPA, Fla, January 23.—Heads of 17 building crafts making up the Amer- fcan Federation of Labor's Building Trades Council yesterday heard that President Hoover had offered them any | possible aid in their efforts to settle dis- | agreements within their ranks. The Chief Executive'’s good wishes | were said to be contained in a letter to | ‘Thomas J. Williams, former building department head and now observer for the Federal Department of Labor. M. J. McDonough of Oakland, Calif., yesterday was elected president of the couneil. The meeting has been: described as the most important in the history of the arganization. Members planned to settle ‘numerous disputes arising from rapidly changing ~construction condi- tions, the right of certain crafts to do | certain jobs and to draft an agreement for setiling future misunderstandings. ..
