Wash- ington listeners can hear “Amos ’'n’ Andy” over one of the following sta- tions: WJZ, WBZ, WBZA, WHAM, KDKA, WJR and WCKY. “The Girl of the Golden West" is the | third of the series of Puccini operas to go on the air for the first time. Three famous opera stars will sing the prin- cipal roles—Frances Alda, soprano; Pas- quale Amato, baritone, and Mario Chamlee, tenor. Gennaro’Papi, operatic direct the performance with a 50-piece orchestra and chorus. Deals With Gold Rush. ‘The opera is based on David Belasco's drama of the/“Wild West” in the Cali- fornia gold-rush period. There are three major characters—the sheriff, | sung by Amato: Minnie, the girl who| keeps the saloon, sung by Mme. Alda, ' and Dick Johnson, the outlaw, sung by | Chamlee. Bartenders, miners, Wells- Fargo agents and Indians make up the subordinate characters. Aside from the opera, WRC will| present three other outstanding musical | features—the weekly concert by Walter Damrosch and his symphony orchestra in the General Electric hour, the Laun- derland Lyrics program, provided by Josef Koestner's Orchestra, and Fred Waldner, tenor, and an hour of dance music by B. A. Rolfe's Lucky Strike Orchestra. “Vagrom Ballad,” a new composition | by George Whitefield Chadwick, dean | of American composers, will have its premiere in the General Electric hour. Other selections to be played by Dam- rosch's Orchestra are Wagner's “Die Schubert's ‘“Moment and Ravel's “Daphnis et Chloe Suite.” Emery to Make Vote Plea. Current musical comedies and talking picture theme songs supply the melodies for the Launderland program. The Lucky Strike Orchestra aiso will play al number of popular melodies. Besides the usual variety of Columbia Broadcasting System attractions, WMAL has scheduled several of local origin. ‘These include a talk by Fred A. Emery, president of the Society of Natives of | the District, on “National Representa- | tion for the District of Columbia,” and | a special concert under auspices of the | choir of the Church of the Blessed!
