S TR [ e DR. S. J. PORTER Fifth Anniversary as Pastor Will Be Observed With Special Services. The fifth anniversary of Dr. Samuel Judson Porter as pastor of the First Baptist Church will be celebrated with special services tomorrow morning. 'A special committee In charge of ar- rangements for this anniversary occa- sion_consists of H. D. Young, chairman of the board of deacons; R. N. Miller, T. Edgar Petty, Dr. Rufus W. Weaver and Henry L. Sweinhart. A large number of letters of felicita- | tion have been received, not only from other pastors in this city who are well | acquainted with Dr. Porter and his work here, but from many others who have known him and speak in highest praise of his ministry. Extracts from a number of these letters will be read at tomorrow’s exercises. Dr. Porter, who is moderator of the Columbia Association of Baptist Churches, was recently honored with the degree of Litt. D, by Simmons Uni- versity of Abilene, Tex. He is a member of the foreign mission board of the| Southern Baptist Convention and of| the board of the Columbia Association of Baptist Churches. Before coming to Washington he served pastorates at Kansas City. Mo.; San Antonio, Tex.; Oklahoma City and Durham, N. Several volumes of his sermons, “Lamps of Gold” and “The Diamond Shield, recently have been published and he has written a iumber of other books on religious subjects. Robert W. Miles to Be in Charge of Meetings at Central Presbyterian. Rev. Robert W.
