Roe shad were offered at 35, bucks at 30 and hearing at 10 cents a Efllnm » Black sea bass, caught in South Caro- lina waters, sold'at. 25 cents a pound, flounders from Boston selling at 18 cents. Frogen trout were qmte§ at 1212 cents. Canadian smelts were in demand at 20 cents for the small fish and 30 cents a pound for the larger ones. Dealers had some small bluefish from the South and plentiful supplies of shrimp, also from that section. Green shrimp were offered at 30 and the cooked shrimp at 65 cents a pound. Inclement weather this morning did not help increase the volume of busi- according to reports of dealers, suggest- ing that cooler weather probably sharp- ened the appetities of comsumers, ne- cessitating heavier demands on part of retailers. A steady condition of the butter and egg market was reported this morning, receipts of e8RS being a trifle lighter, but prices continued unchanged. Deal- ers anticipate lower prices in the egg market unless weather conditions be- come so severe that hauling will be in- terrupted. Receipts of fruits and vegetables by commission merchants continue heavy and attractive and were in good de- mand this morning. Hundreds of bar- rels of kale arrived here this morning from the vicinity of Norfolk, Va., quan- tities of spinach coming from nearby snd Texas growers. Kale was offered at 75 cents a bushel or $2 a barrel. Spinach, always higher than kale, sold around $1.25 and $1.50 a bushel basket. Parsnips were plenti- ful at 75 cents and $1 for two-peck baskets. COAL OUTPUT GAINS REPORTED FOR YEAR by | Trade Journal Also Notes Strength- ening of Price Levels in 1929. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, January 16—In a year markets of the country in 1929 were an increase in the total production and a marked st in price levels in the last quarter, according to Coal Age. ‘Total pi ction for the year was es- timated at 525,358,000 tons, an increase of 24,613,000 tons, or 4.9 per cent, over 1928. This increase, due n large meas- ure to the greater use of fuel by electric utilities, railroads and steel plants, is the more noteworthy, the publication states, in that it was made in the face of in- cre: tion from 'natural gas and a decline in the reserves in storage. The 1929 output was the largest since 1926, when 673,367,000 tons were mined. ction on the whole, was undis- turbed by labor troubles and was in- fluenced only by the usual seasonal fluctuations in demand and, in some cases, shifts in tonnage..
