N, on duty at the Naval Research Laboratory, Bell>vue, D. C., as assistant director, died Monday night at the| Naval Hospital here of pneumonia, after a short illness. c-pt S. K. Evans, Chaplain Corps, | { N., will conduct funeral services | n the chapel at Fort Myer, Va. at 2 | o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Interment | will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Comdr. Libbsy was born at Billerica. | Mass, on November 5, 1884, and was appointed a midshipmen from his na- | tive State in 1903. During the World | War he did important work in con- nection with the development of anti- submarine devices and was awarded a ! special letter of commendation for his | service. He had an active and varied | career in the Navy. ashore and afloat, and was aide on the staff of the com- | mander ot the battle fleet in 1927 and | 1928, as fleet engineer officer. Comdr. | Libbery was on duty at the Naval Re- | search Laboratory since October 25 of last year and naval officials feel that in his death the Navy has lost a valuable | and distinguished officer. | Comdr. PETERSBURG, Fla, January 9. -—Mrflt for 30 hours in their open launch, Mr. and Mrs. John Lovett of | Tampa, were rescued from Tampa Bay late Tuesday by Goast Guardsmen, who | were notified of the couple’s predica- ment by operators of the year blimp, Vigilant, which sighted the craft while circling the bay. 1 ‘The couple said they set out from ‘Tampa Monday morning for a camping trip at the mouth of Little Manatee River. About noon, their motor stopped | an]d ;hanly afterward the boat sprang a leak. Circling high in the air on a pleasure flight over the bay. Pilot Charles E. Brannigan of the blimp sighted the drifting launch and nosed the airship down to within a few feet of the water.
