PLANWHITE GIFT’ CHURCH SERVICE First Congregational Church People Build Manger for Contributions. Special Christmas services will be held tomorrow at the First Congrega- tional Church, Tenth and G streets. A “white gift” service will be held at both morning and evening services. A manger similar to that in which the Christ-child was laid has been built in front of the pulpit and is filled with straw. The congregation will bring special offerings wrapped in white, as a symbol of the white purity of love, and will pass in a processional by the manger and lay the white gifts therein as a gift to Christ. A friend, who desires to remain anonymous, has offered to contribute as much as the congregation will give up to the limit of $1,500. Dr. Pierce hopes that $3,000 or more will thus be raised for the benevolences and cur- Tent expenses of the church.. Dr. Plerce will preach a Christmas sermon. The Sunday school will hold a Christmas entertainment Monday eve- ning in the Sunday school room. A Christmas pageant will be presented by the children from the primary and junior departments and Santa Claus will present. . Dr. Plerce will speak Thursday night at 8 o'clock on “Looking Backward,” and his sermon will be illustrated by the motion plcture “Not So Long Ago.” All departments of the Sunday school meet at 9:45 am. VISITOR TO OCCUPY COVENANT PULPIT Dr. Henry of Lingnan University to Preach Sermon on Yule- tide Topic. The pulpit of the Church of the Covenant will be occupied tomorrow morning by Dr. James M. Henry, pro- vost of Lingnan University, Canton, China, who will preach on the subject, “Does Christmas Mean Christ to You?" Dr. Henry was formerly an assistant minister of the Church of the Covenant. The Sunday school will meet at 9:45 am, and at 11 o'clock the kindergar- ten take charge of small children so that parents may attend the morning service. The Christian Endeavor Society meets at 6:30 o'clock for tea and social, and the meeting follows at 7 o'clock, when Miss Rachel Benfer will talk about Christmas at the Langdon School, Mount Vernon, Ky. The Sunday school Christmas party will be held Monday evening, opening with a short Christmas play, “The Real Shepherd's Story.” Then all present will visit many foreign lands, followed by games, and refreshments. Miers, pastor of Fourth Presbyterian Church, Fairmont and Thirteenth streets, will have for ser- mon subject at the 11 o'clock service tomorrow “The Birthday of the King."” There will be a Christmas celebration Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Kelly Hall of the church for the Sunday school and all the church membership. There will be readings from the prophecies and scenes from the life of Christ portrayed by costumed groups. After reception of gifts from the school and church for the needy, including foodstuffs, there will be a reading from Van Dyke, illus- trated by illuminated tableaux.
