We’ll lose him somewhere and then we'll come back and feast on Reddy Fox had succeeded in catching & turkey and in a way he had caughi a little more than he had bargained for. Almost at cnce he knew that that tur- key would have to be eaten very near where it was killed. Therefore, it was necessary that it should be hidden close by for a while. Now, Reddy and Mrs. Reddy had planned all this out before- hand. They had suspected that they might have to hide the turkey if they got one, so they had agreed on a hiding place. Where do you think that place REDDY STARTED OFF, RUNNING SWIFTLY was? It was under the barn. It was under the barn on the very farm where the turkeys lived. You could have thrown a stone from where Reddy dragged it under the barn. He remained dra g deguitnder the barn. He remained there with it until it was so dark that he was sure he could slip out without being seen. For two or three minutes he stood lis- tening. Far, far away he could hear the baying of the hcund. He knew that that hound was chasing Mrs. Reddy. That hound was the dog who lived on this very farm where Reddy then was. It was the dog on whom the farmer de- this turkey. No one will think to look for it so near home.” Reddy started off, running swiftly. It was quite evident to him that that dcg was wise in the ways of Foxes and (v their tricks. So far, Mrs. Reddy had not been able to break her trail. Reddy could tell by the sound of the dog that Mrs. Reddy was running in a big circie. He knew the ground perfectly. He knew just where Mrs. Reddy would be likely fo run, and so he headed her off. - As she | passed a big rock, Reddy jumped lightly ( | down behind her. “Jump up on that log ahead of you, my dear, and go back to that rock I have just jumped from,” he barked. “I'll take care of that fel- | low.” Mrs. Reddy did as Reddy told her to. She was glad to do it, for by this time she was getting tired. She had tried many tricks to fool that dog, but he had been too smart to be fooled. She sprang lightly up on the log, which was off to one side, sprang from the farther end of it and ran around up on the big rock She was lying down there grinning when the dog went past just beneath ir. He went on straight past the log to | which Mr. Reddy had jumped. You see, | there was the fresh smell of Fox in his nose all the time, for his nose was in | Reddy’s tracks now and he didn't know | the difference. | I wonder if Reddy got that turkey.” | said Mrs. Reddy to herself. “There | wasn't time for him to tell me. I wish | I knew. I have half a mind to go back | to that farm and look for that turkey | now. ~However, that wouldn't be fair to | Reddy. He came over here to help me and now the thing for me to do is to get rested and remain over here to help hi if he needs any help.” But Reddy didn’t need any help. Not for nothing had he learned how to fool Bowser the Hound over at Farmer Brown's. There was no better fox dog in all the country round than Bowser the | Hound. Yet Reddy had fooled him many times. If he could fool Bowser he could fool this dog. But he wasn't ready to fcol him yet. He wanted him to be- come thoroughly tired out first, and when he did lose him he wanted to lose him somewhere so far away that it would take him a long time to get home. muf’ and Jef BU FisHEs Jeff Should Jump the Furtherest. - ‘1 o lzjev KEN KLING LET'S SEE€ wHo CAN MAKE THE FUNNIEST MY GOOD MEN, ARE You JUMPING | | THE MONEY OFE THE Dock?
