CHURCH DELEGATES HERE FOR SESSION : Universalist General Conven- ; tion, to Last a Week, Will Open- Tomorrow. More than 1,000 churchmen, includ- ing delegates and laymen, are en route to Washington for sessions of the Uni- wversalist General Convention, which commences in the Hotel Mayflower to- morrow. ‘Three separate groups will meet dur- ing the week. The annual convention of the General Sunday School Associa- tion of the Universalist Church will be- gin tomorrow and continue through ‘Tuesday; the Women's National Mis- sionary Association will meet Tuesday and Wednesday, and the General Con- vention of the church is scheduled to start Wednesday evening and continue through next Sunday. Delegates From Japan. Speakers include delegates from as far west as the State of Washington, as ‘well as representatives of the Universal- ist Church from its mission in Shizuoka, Japan. The general theme of the Uni- versalist General Convmtlon will be “Religion and Life.” The meeting Wed- nesday at 7:30 p.m. will be in All Souls’ Unitarian Church, when Dr. FredeYick W. Perkins, minister of the Universalist National Memorial Church, will sound the “keynote” of the convention proper. The general theme of this meeting is Sptrllull Values of Liberal Christian- Pn\cthtn]l) all of the group sessions will be held at the Mayflower because of the uncompleted condition of the Universalist National Memorial Church building, at Sixteenth and S streets. Delegates will visit the edifice, now un- der construction, as well as other points of interest in Washington during the week. ‘The first meeting of the General Sun- day School Association, tonight, will be in the hotel headquarters at 7:30 o'clock, when an open forum is to be conducted by Rev. Laura Bowman Galer. Dr. Perkins will deliver the of- ficial welcoming address. Tomorrow at 10:45 a.m. the occasional sermon, “A Flying Dream,” will be preached by Dr. Herbert E. Benton. There will be other ' addresses by Rev. Ladie F. Rowlett and ‘Waitstill H. Sharp, fraternal delegates from the Unitarian Sunday School As- sociation. Business sessions will be held Mon- day, with an address by Rev. Clifford R. Stetson of Shizuoka, Japan, followed by a debate led by Rev. Max Kapp and Rev. Gustav H. Leining on the question: “Reselved, That the project method of teaching ought to be employed much more generally in Universalist Church schools.” ‘The divisional conferences are sched- uled for Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., with a number of addresses. Rev. George H. Welch of Scranton, Pa., will conduct the devotional service at the opening of general conven- tion on Wednesday evening. Other ad- dresses are to be delivereg by Rev. Henry Victory Morgan of Tacoma, ‘Wash,, on “The Ministry of Healing,” and Rev. James W. Vallentyne of Port- hnd Me., will speak on “Teaching Our Faith to Others.” There will be & dis- cussion following Rev. Bostrom revival campaign will open tomorrow at the Full Gospel Tabernacle, North Capitol and K streets, and will continue for three weeks. MTr. Bostrom comes from Chicago, where he has been conducting evangelistic services. Rev. Harry Colller, the pastor, stated the ministry of Christian healing is em- phasized in these services, and the sick of every creed and faith are invited. Right Rev. James E. Freeman, Bishop of Washington, will be the special preacher at the people’s evensong in Bethlehem Chapel of Washington Cathedral tomorrow at 4 p.m. This service will be broadcast over WRC. At the celebration of the holy com- munion at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Bethle- hem Chapel the sermon will be preached by Rev. John W. Gummere of the Cathedral staff. The other services in Bethlehem Chapel tomorrow will be as follows: 7:30 a.m., celebration of holy com- munion; 10 a.m., morning prayer and . John W. Gummere will conduct two Cathedral piigrimages tomorrow. The one at 12:30 am. will begin at Bethlehem Chapel. Since the inauguration of these special pilgrim- ages some weeks ago, hundreds of pil- grims residing in Washington and visit- ors from many States listened eagerly to the vivid descriptions given by the Rev. Mr. Gummere of the interesting objects within the Cathedral and the Cathedral Close. Rev. Mr. Gummere is also available on week days, with the exception of Mondays, to escort pilgrims, in groups or individually, about the Cathedral grounds and to show them the compre- hensive model of the Cathedral in the curator's office and the beauties of the bishop's garden, which are not open to the public on Sunday. GEORGETOWN CHURCH SETS NIGHT SERVICE Evening Meeting to Start at 7:30 0'Clock and Be in Shortened Form. E. Church—"The Pestival of the Nations. Douglas Chapter held a “vegetable serv- ice,” to which donations of canned goods and vegetables were brought. Trinity Chapter held a arnival to raise money for it, and Petworth Chapter gave a play, the proceeds of which will go into the booth festival fund. The money and food received at the. festival will be distributed among the various Methodist Church homes. ‘The prohibition essay contest will close tomorrow. Papers should be for- warded to the district third vice presi- dent not later than the last mail. A prize of a five-dollar gold piece will be awarded the district winner. Prizes in the national contest finals, which will be held February 1, range from $25 to $250. Metropolitan Chapter has planned a social for this evening. It will be in the nature of a home coming. The district fourth vice president will hold a Halloween social next Saturday evening at Metropolitan Church. Leaders for devotioral services to- morrow are as follows: Douglas Chap- ter, Miss Mary Gastrock and Herbert Cooper; Anacostia Chapter, Joe Proctor will lead; Brookland, Tomalee Nix, and at Dumbarton Avenue Chapter, George Boss, from Douglas. CHURCHMAN’S LEAGUE CHANGES ITS NAME Action Taken at Instance of Bishop Freeman, Favoring Twice- a-Year Dinner Program. The Churchman's League of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, at the instance of Right Rev. James E. Free- man, has changed its name to “The Bishop's League of the Diocese of ‘Washington.” Bishop Freeman requested the mem- bers to form a body to which, at least twice a year, at an informal dinner, he could tell of his hopes and plans for the work of the diocese. ‘The first dinner meeting will be held i at St. Stephen’s parish hall, 1527 New- ton street, October 29 at 6:30 pam.
