The Re- publicans think that it is all right as long as it is a Republican Presi- dent (and Mr. Hoover is just about the latest Republican there is). ‘The whole thing just proves that the Democrats have very little con- fidence of every getting a President, otherwise they wouldn’t want to take away any of his authority. LONDON, October 1 (N.ANA)— “My present opinion is that Americar women do not know nearly so much about the running of their country as English girls m‘ke it their business to learn about theirs. “Possibly I shall change my mind when I am actually in the United States. Time alone can prove whether I am right or wrong.” Ishbel MacDonald was sitting on the edge of the sofa in her sitting room at 10 Downing street, on the very eve of her departure for America with her father, the prime minister. Her large brown eyes were rather startled because I, an American girl, was putting quutwm to her which necessitated answers for publication, and her face showed a little embarrass- ment ‘because she was being inter- v{ewed——ln ordeal from her point of view. Hard to Interview. When I had first triedto see the girl all Britain calls Ishbel. T had been warded off rather firmly. Then she re- lented upon hearing that I wanted only a few minutes and wouldn't trouble her to write anything. I was shown into the room I took to be her den. It’is small and cozy and very tidy, with a well worn desk in one corner. Two large French windows look out upon gray roofs. A few flowers gave the room color.
