(NTING OF CHURCH CALLED NECESSARY Presbyterian Leader Pleads for Immediate Merging of North-South Units. By the Associated Press. PENMAR Pa., August 1.—Immediate union of all factions of the Presbyterian Church, both North and South, was the | call sounded in an address prepared by Dr. William Chalmers Covert of Phila- delphia as the keynote of a meeting of the various factions here virtually on the Mason and Dixon Line. Dr. Covert, who is general secretary of the Presby- terian Board of Christian Education, launched his plea with a declaration | that every argument, for reuniting the | separate units took on a new urgency | at present. ‘Time, he indicated, has removed many objections that have prevented | unification of the church, saying “the | psalms of David are no longer an is- | sue to keep Presbyterians apart” and | “the racial situation that justified | separate grouping in the pioneer periods | has entirely passed.” Developmént of denominational me- rale, preservation of the characteristic elements of the church, duty to the next generation and conservation of | economic forces with elimination of un- | necessary duplication were among the reasons advanced for the union. It seems the mine sweepers, in maneuvers of the scouting fleet off Narragansett Bay, picked up or upset the lobster pots while trying to catch mines. The fish- ermen are objecting. ‘Taking notice of the situation, Senator Hebert of Rhode Island has asked the Navy Department for a report. The Navy says it sent out notice in time to warn the fishermen. The latter say they weren't notified. The mine sweepers got the lobsters any- way, and the fishermen are out. MULTI-MILLIONAIRE SUED.
