STONE. Not since the days when the Indians yoamed Montauk ~Point, occasionally scalping some financier or other early md’. has a better banking conven- tion been held in that region than the one just concluded by Washington bank- ers, in the opinion of those same bank- ers who reached home this morning, arriving at the Union Station an hour late on account of a bit of engine trou- ble. The dis on bank manage- ment were of both local and general interest and the reports of special com- mittees brought out many intensely in- teresting facts on business and finance in the District. Robert V. Fleming, wnho gave ited time-'to the association’s affairs during the year, retirea_smid a blaze of glory and Wilmer J. Waller and the yest of the new officers were escorted 1o the platform amid vigorous applause. The attendance this year was not quite up to last year—219 against 244—due to the fact that about 20 bankers’ wives, who looked Montauk over thoroughly last year, basked in its bracing ocean air and viewed its charming scenery, were not aboard the special this year. There were, however, 18 bank presidents at the conclave, probably a record. Contests on Links Very Close. With the dis- tribution of several "hundred million dollars in dividend and interest pay- ments around the first of the month, a huge reinvestment demand was looked for, and it was widely believed that a substantial percentage of this would find its way back to the stock market.
