THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, ASK FOR SEPARATE WIVES' CITIZENSHIP Independence From Mate in| Nationality Urged by Alliance. By the Associated Press. BERLIN, June 21.—Independent citi- zenship for married women, a matter | in which the United States was recog- nized to have the most progressive logislation of any country, was urged | in a resolutions adopted today by the congress of the Women's International Suffrage Alliance. Increase of legal age for marriage in | all countries to 16 years for girls and | 18 years for boys was recommended in the same resolution. Chrystal MacMillan of England con- demned changing women's nationality vith marriage as “the most pernioious of all anti-feminist doctrines. A woman because she has a husband should not have taken from her the| most fundamental of all political rights, her nationality.” Resolutions adopted reaffirmed the adherence of the congress to the prin- ciple that “a woman's nationality shall not be changed by marriage or by the change in nationality of her husband.” The congress commended legislation on this subject by the United States, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Belgium and Rumania. The delegates unani- mously voted thanks to Dame Rachel Crowdy of England for her work in representing women's organizations be- fore commissions of the League of Nations.
