The police have stated that 205 names were taken during the raid, among them scores of men and women well known in the settlement. In raid- ing the place, the police erected a bar- ricade, obliging those in the resort to down a barbed wire lane as they departed. Their names and addresses | were then taken. The cases are slated to be tried in | the consular courts of the nationality of those concerned. Lawyers here considered the situa- tion highly involved because of the various consular jurisdictions. Charles Gates Dawes, former Vice President and recently appointed Am- bassador to Great Britain, has inter- rupted preparations for departure next month to the Court of St. James long enough to collect $4.000,000 of the $10,000,000 goal set last week when he became chairman of the finance com- mittee of the Chicago World Pair of 1933. Announcement of Gen. Dawes’ col- lections was made simultaneouslv with disclosure of enhanced plans for the fair and the official renaming of the project to “A Century of Progress Fair Gen. Dawes issued a plea for co- operation of citizens and disclosed that $10,000,000 in bonds, secured by @& pledge of 40 per cent of the estimated $40 000,000 gate receipts and personal pledges of guarantors, will be sold to help finance the fair.
