She and 10 children survive., From 1887 to 1889 Mr. Pallen was editor of Church Progress and Catholic World. Since 1885 he had been a lecturer on literary subjects. Besides contributing to Catholic publi- cations he was the author of several volumes of poetry. He was a member of the Authors, Century and Catholic Clubs_and editor of Universal Knowl- edge Foundation. His wife and a daughter, Louise B. & boy of 18 and had resided here since. He was engaged in the restaurant busi- ness until two years ago, when {ll health compelled him to retire. He resided at 306 C street. Surviving him are two sisters, Miss Cora M. Michael of this city, with whom he lived, and Mrs. Mary Schneider of Mount Washington, Baltimore, and two brothers, Howard M. Born at Hanover, Pa., March 14, 1870, Mr. Michael came to Washington when St. Louis for burial. Mr. Pallen was weil known in Wash- ington. He was graduated from George- town University in 1880 with an A. B. degree. Three years later he received his master's degree from the university and in 1896 was awarded an honorary degree of doctor of laws. In 1924 Mr. Pallen was appointed na- tional chairman of the Georgetown Uni- versity Endowment Association, main- taining headquarters here for several months until illness brought about his resignation. As chairman of the asso- clation he worked in co-operation with the present president of Georgetown. Rev. W, Coleman Nevils, 8. J., who at that time was in general charge of or- ganizing the alumni. Mr. Pallen was known as the “poet | laureate” of Georgetowh. In 1896 he wrote and delivered the “Ode on the Centenary of Georgetown University.” and since then he was also the author of a number of poems dealing with his alma mater, Studied in Rome.
