Approximately 30 new varieties of roses will be introduced to the public at the annual exhibition of the Ameri- can Horticultural American Peony Society at the Willard Hotel June 7 and 8, it was announced today by Dr. David Lumsden, chair- man of the special exhibits committee. Notable for perfection of bloom and curious color combinations, they rep- resent the latest creations of rose breeders of Europe and America. Some are the results of crosses with definite | objectives while others appeared unex- pectedly as “sports” from well known species. Among the latter is one which has aroused much interest among Washington rose growers, appearing suddenly in the backyard garden of George R. Goergens of the Department of Agriculture motion picture labora- tory at 3109 Seventeenth street. It was first noticed by Mr. Goergens two years ago when one shoot of a fairly common garden rose, the Cha- teau de Clos Vogeout, grew exception- ally high and produced a blossom of a much lighter red than the parent plant. The Chateau de Clos Vogeout is almost black-red and grows very low.
