NEW YORK, May 27.—A continu- ation of the 6 per cent renewal for call money into the longest period at this rate since the last week in January has so far had no beneficial effetct on bonds. A considerable addition was made today to the list of those selling at_the lowest prices of the year. This list included the United States Liberty 31is, which have been softer than the other Liberties, with the first 4155 at approximately their previous low quotation this year. MARKET Fruit and Vegetaty_le Receipts' Are Ample to Supply Demand. Closing of the retail markets at 11 o'clock Thursday morning, Decoration day, will not greatly affect the whole- sale’ trade, as most of the latter busi- ness usually s conducted in the early morning. It is more than likely, how- ever, that many haulers due here Thursday morning will not come that morning. Some may come Wednesday, while others probably will delay their coming until Friday morning. Today's early morning_ trading was not especially brisk, trading the first market day of the week seldom being heavy, according to dealers, the result of consumers putting in supplies enough the latter part of the week to last over the week end. Wholesalers had attractive displays of commoditics to offer the retail trade this morning, especially dealers in| fruits and vegetables. Displays of wa- termelons, cantaloupes, several varieties of berries, cherries, pineapples and alli- gator pears were reported especially attractive. Vegetables of every variety were in plentiful supply. Poultry, meat, butter and egg dealers also offerings to claim attention of retailers, while ma- rine products were reported plentiful and cheap. On the whole the market de- fended its ground stoutly. ‘The price decline for the week was slight after the brisk re- coveries which fol- lowed the midweek break. ‘Transac- tions did not close- ly approach the record - breaking volume of the March slump. ‘The all-indus- trials index shows only a 2 per cent decrease from the week before. The decline on Wednesday was 9 points, compared with a 12-point slump on March 26. The motors group, dominated by General Motors, fell to 14 index points below the March 26 low. Not since the week of August 24, 1923, has the index of this group been lower than on last Wednesday, when it hit 2574 ‘The action of the coppers was pecul- ijar. These stocks dropped a day sooner than the other industrials, and also made their recovery a day earlier. The oils declined much less severely than groups, but likewise advanced much less after their drop. The rails netted a slight gain for the week. While most of the common stock | groups made gains on Friday, the pre- ferred shares sagged a bit further. The compact survey of New York Stock Exchange movements of common industrial shares is given below price indexes (1926=-100). There are two indexes of market price move- ment. The first (shares outstand- ing) rcrr?!?nu all common industrial shares listed on the exchange, the im- portance of each stock being consic ered according to the shares in exist- ence or outstanding. The second index (50 leaders) shows the price move- ment of the common industrial stocks most heavily dealt in during the week, this list changing weekly with the shifts in trading popularity. The “shares outstanding” index shows what a substantially representa- tive $100 worth of stocks in 1926 would now amount to if held unchanged since that year. The “50 leaders” index shows the result of reinvesting the $100 every week in the market favor- ites of that week. ‘The last column of the tables gives the rate of return on the week's 50 leaders at current prices.
