THE G HELD SURE OF HERRK POST Diplomats and Capitol Hill Believe Senator Will Be Named Ambassador. Follow the Ball Team We'st By Radio! In our Sporting Goods Dept. every day. Fourth Floor By the Associated Press. Diplomatic Washington seems to be | convinced that Senator Edge of New Jersey is the most likely choice for ap- pointment as Ambassador to France to succeed the late Myron T. Herrick. A similar opinion is entertained on Capi- tol Hill, particularly among close friends of the Senator. Authentic information now is that President Hoover has no intention of making a selection for some months, or until after the extra session of Con- gress is is regarded as lending fur- ther color to the reports that the senior Senator from New Jersey will go to Senator Edge is maintaining is known that he already plans and strengthening | on for the senatorial pri- | t June, when the Re- | State will nominate a . S. Swenson will be retained at his present post in Norway, where he | has served since 1921, Some of the jiplomatic representatives to Eu~ ng Hugh Gibson, Ambassa- Belgium, also will be continued present places, although some fers to Latin America are antici- lowbloom,” in Specials from the Notion Department 39¢-50c All Rubber Tea Aprons .23¢ 59¢ Garter Belts, as- sorted styles and Dainty gowns, bloomers, shirts and costume slips—at an astonishing price even for those which are nmot Sizes 6 to 14 years. There is, of course, much conjecture as to the successor of the veteran Henry P. Fletcher, Ambassador to Rome, who desires to return to his native country after diplomatic service of more than quarter of a century. Thus far few names have been suggested. If any changes in the Iatin Ameri- can field have been definitely decided upon, this fact has not yet become generally known. Several of the dip- lomatic representatives in the south- | ern republics will go forward with their | work, but when the reassignments and reorganizations are complete there will be new American representatives in a number of the Latin American capi- tals. Roy T. Davis is returning to Costa Rica as Minister, but his friends are hopeful that he will be promoted to a more important post in Tecognition of what they regard as his splendid service at San Jose. There are suggestions that he may succeed Alexander P. Moore as Ambassador to Peru. New Appointments Necessary. Besides those at Paris and Rome, a number of new appointments to the corps are to be made. The adminis- tration soon will be called upon to send a Minister to the Union of South Af- rica, one of the British dominions, as the way now is being paved for direct diplomatic relations such as exist be- tween the United States and Canada. Friends of Senator Edge, who are urging him for the Paris Ambassador- ship, hold that he would fit well into the picture. Most of the questions be- tween this country and France are eco- nomic, such as the tariff and war debts, to which he has given study as a mem- ber of the Senate finance committee. He was in business in Paris for 15 years before his election to the Senate, spending several months of each year there. KANSAS CITY RADIO STATION QUITS AIR Action Taken Under Protest as Federal Commission Refuses to Renew License. By the Associated Press. KANSAS CITY, May 2—Radio Sta- tion WHB of Kansas City, one of the pioneer broadcasting stations of the Middle West, has quit the air under protest, following receipt of word from the Federal Radio Commission that its license had not been renewed. Emory J. Sweeney, owner of an au- tomobile school that has operated the station, ordered broadcasting stopped on being unofficially advised that per- sons using the air without a license would be liable to prosecution. He an- nounced he was attempting to obtain a hearing before the col on the order closing ‘the station. The Radio Commission refused to re- new the WHB license on the ground that {6 had been transferred without agthorization. Sweeney declared the 00l company- still had title to the station despite a foreclosure action on & mortgage. Advices from Washington said tRat Stations KMBC and KLDS, Independ- ence, Mo., which heretofore have shared time with WHB, probably would be al- lowed full time on the 950-kilocycle channel.
