NEW YORK, May 2.—Those who sold {the new American I. G. Chemical 5%; iver cent convertibles short between 95 |and 96 last Friday on the assumption |'that this issue would drag as man | others have done. and that its rela. | tionship to Germany at the present | time was a bearish feature, paid heavily { today for their poor judgment. | 'The bonds by 1 and 2 point advances went to 110'; during the first hour of trading, after closing yesterday at | 1021z, When the speculative demand | had been satisfied they dropped back | |to 104, which was still a 10-point pre- mium over the subscription price. It a long while since any new bond offer- | | ing_has made money so rapidly for | | buyers as this one. | Other convertibles were quite strong. { The American Telephone 4’.s rallied | |oves 2 points. There were fractional | gains in International Telephone 4!y | Atchlson 4!;s and -American Interna- | tional 535, ~Dodge 6s recovered a point | of ‘their~recent decline of 2!, points. | The Itallan convertibles did not do so well, with Pirelli 7s off 11, points, | | " The renewal rate for money of 10| |per ‘centindicated a strong demand | {2ven with the bulk of the May financing covered. It had a tendency to restrict purchases in high-grade bonds, al- | though prices held steady. Several of | the United States Government issues were a little higher, but the short term | Treasury certificates weer all selling | close to' & 5 per cent basis | Among the inactive rails and in- | dustrials there was lack of definite |trend. Chicago and Eastern Illinois 5s Chicago Great Western 4, snd Missouri Pacific 4s were higher, but | Erie refunding 8s, Prisco 4!5s and Rock Island 4',s were lower. The Bethle- {hem Steel issues were strong, with the | purchase money 5s up a point. There | were fairly broad markets again in , Utilities Power & Light |515s, Midvale 'Steel 5s, Armour 5 | National Dairy Products 5'ss and Rem- | | ington Rand 57:s. The foreign list was dull. Specialists | in it said that it was difficult to dispose | |of bonds except at greater concessions | |than holders would consider. One | source of support, namely Europenni banks and insurance companies, has | been withdrawn recently pending a clearer outlook in the reparations nego- tiations. The high money rates in Ger- | many have also made the returns on | German dollar bonds less attractive than they have been for the past two years. HEADS PULLMAN CO. CHICAGO, May 2 (#).—David A. High. Low. Close. 2 107% 107% 107% SUPPLY IS LARGE Hard and Soft Crabs Shipped Here From Bay and River. Municipal Fish Market this morning | was the scene of unusual activity, the market being fairly glutted with fish from the lower Potomac, Chesapeake Bay and markets in the North and South. An interesting feature was the plen- | tiful supplies and cheap prices of hard | crabs, the crustaceans selling at 85 a barrel, about as cheap as they have| been at any time the past several years. Dealers also had soft crabs from the| Potomac and Chesapeake Bay, as well | as from North Carolina, and they wcre quoted around $1.50 a dozen. They also had plentiful supplies of crab meat from Mississippi, the lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay. Prices ranged from 25 cents for claw meat to 60 cents a | pound for special lump stock. Other Suplies Plentiful. Lobsters, also plentiful, were offered at 50 cents a pound. There was prac- | tically no shrimp to be had. Frogs, | received from Louisiana, were quoted | at 40 cents, and snapping turtles, alive, were 10 cents a pound. Sturgeon, more | plentiful and cheaper than usual, was quoted at 30 cents a pound. Roe shad were 20 and bucks 15 cents a pound. Herring, quoted as $2 per| 100, were o plentiful that packers were | cutting them and offering the roe at $2 a gallon of 10 pounds. Shad roe | | sold at 60 and 75 cents, Prices of other fish were quoted as| | tollows: Rockfish, 25; perch, 10; cod, 10; catfish, 5: spotted trout. 20; blue- fish, 25; haddock, 5: fillet of haddock, flounders, 8; halibut. 25 salmon, Boston mackerel, 15; Spanish mack- 15. Dealers had fairly good supplies of oysters, shell stock selling at $2 a bushel. Clams were scarce at $2 per 100. A continued firm condition of the egg market was reported this morning. Receipts are not very heavy, dealers re- ported, much of the supplies going to packing houses. Prices were slightly ad- | vanced. Butter prices continued without change. Poultry dealers reported a ! slight decrease in prices of turkeys and Spring chickens. Prices of practically all other commodities this morning were about the same as prices quoted yester- day.
