Wingrove Bathon, 53 years old, for- mer city editor of the Washington Post and for five years a member of the news staff of The Evening Star, died early this morning at Saranac Lake, N, Y, following an operation for appendicitis. Mr. Bathon. who had been in poor health for three years, was operated 4upon Saturday and the operation was regarded as so successful that his wife, who had accompanied him to sannac. returned home. Coming to Washington from New York, he became city editor of the Post and later was on the news stafl of The Star. .. During the Mexican outbreak in 1914 Mr. Bathon was in Vera Cruz, at the time of its occupatiop by United States Marines, as a special correspondent for The Star. He also has served as managing editor of the Cosmopolitan Magazine and as a literary eritic for Collier’s. At one time Mr. Bathon was the Washington representative of the McGaw-Hill Publishing Co. and & correspondent of the magazine, the Electric World. Funeral Probably Saturday.
