Staft Correspondent of The Star, CLARENDON, Va., April 18.—If the Arlington County Chamber of Com- merce raises its half of the $10,000 fund for the employment of a zoning engineer and other expertes of the| zoning commission the board of county supervisors will appoint Allen J. Sayer commander of the How- itzer Company, 1st National Guard, this morn rt from the inspector general of "t‘l:: tlnttghon the recent annual inspec- n of 16 company. ‘The report gives - the Kensington Company the highest rating that is pos- sible under the mglmn regulations. mxd recelved s CLARK DEDICATION of Richmond at their board meeting on widor April 24, it was revealed to the ooard of directors of the trade body last night by Ashton C. Jones, chairman of the zoning committee. The intention of the supervisors was expressed in a letter that Jones produced at the meeling and was taken as an indication that they have no intention of obligating the county for the entire amount and will take no definite action until the Chamber of Commerce has raised its quota in full. Little Time Left. Saville is the choice of the Chamber of Commerce for the position of zone ing engineer for the county, an indica- | tion that the supervisors are wiliing to | co-operate, but unwilling to shoulder the entire load. ‘That there is little time left for the raising of the money was revealed by P. P. Waodbridge, executive secretary of the trade body, when he produced a statement to the effect that there has been but $1,400 of the $5,000 fund paid in up to the present time and that but few of the pledges, amounting to $3,450, have as yet been made good. Practically all of the money that has voluntarily come into the office has been from persons who are not members of the chamber and who have not been solicited by any of the special committee of 50 who were appointed to_raise the money. President Keith A. Brumback express- ed confidence that the committee, with the aid of the board of directors, can and will raise the fund within the next few days. The chamber will abandon its letter ‘writing method of collection and immediately resort to personal so- licitation. Dinner Is Planned. 8o certain are the members of the | board that the appointment of Saville will be made at the next meeting of the board of supervisors that they ar- ranged for a dinner meeting to be held in the Washington-Lee High School on April 30 for the purpose of having Saville meet those who are in- terested in zoning and to explain to them the work that he proposes to do. ‘The meeting is to be under the au- spices of the trade body, but will be open to any one. Attendance is limited to 200, The dinner will start at 7 o'clock. Members of the.zoning commission are anxious that “an appointment be made 28 quickiy as possible, since they are badly in need of expert advice even before the actual zoning starts.
