POLCENAN FRED OF LIOUOR ARG Pvt. Murphy, Accused of Be- ing Drunk as Result of Auto Accident. Pvt. Dennis J. Murphy, tenth pre- cinct, tried vesterday, was exonerated on a charge of intoxication by the Police Trial Toasd, it was announced today. Murphy drove his automobile into a car parked near Fourteenth street and Maryland avenue northeast March 25. He was charged with being intoxi- cated as a result of the accident, but the board found the evidence not suffi- elent to support the charge. Pvt. W. D. Young of the ninth pre- einct was tried jointly with Murphy on charges of neglect of duty, not mak- ing a proper report of an accident and telling an untruth to a superior officer. He was cleared on the first two charges and found guilty of part of the third. Young reported that Murphy had driven the car from the scene of the accident to Ninth and F streels north- east, but the board found that Young himself had driven it to a garage for repairs, Young was fined $25 on this charge. He also was warned to be more eareful in future about making reports, as his report to the precinct on the ac- cident made no statement as to the probable cause of the accident. Pvts. Luther J. Walker and F. W. Marple, both of the fifth precinct, and K. C. Judy of the seventh were found gullty of failing to patrol their beats andh entering bulldings and fined $10 each. Hafey of Ralsigh, in an address before the locai | Converts' League at 601 E street mc; night. ‘The league is a committee of Court No. 212, Catholic Daughters of America, and its purpose is to provide social contact with converts in the Catholic Church and to explain various phases of the religion to them. Bishop Hafey told of tours made by him in North Carolina in a railroad car in which services are held in vari- ous towns in North Carolina. Boland, grant regent of the court, and Miss Florence Winter, chairman of the Converts’ League, had charge of the program. Army Band Will Be in Spain for Exposition. ‘There will be fewer band concerts in the parks of the Capital during the early part of the season this year, due to the absence of the Army Band at the International Exposition, at Seville, Spain. The Office of Public Buildings :nd Public Parks announced today the United’ States Navy Band will inau- gurate the season in the Sylvan Theater on Tuesday, May 14. This program will be broadcast by Station WMAL. The Army Band is not expected to return to Washington before July 1. 0 that concerts will be fewer until that date. During the season, as is custo- mary, concerts will be given in various parks throughout the city. The season ‘will end September 13. Schalk Gets Hoover Signature. One of the most prized possessions of Ray Schalk, big league catcher, is & base ball bearing the signatures of four Presidents of the United States. Schalk called at the White House to- day and obtained President Hoover's autograph upon the sphere, to add to those of Taft, Harding and Coolidge. COLUMBIA SCHOOL WINS. HARRON DIES WHILE AT WORK Bureau of Fisheries Expert Will Be Buried in Fort Lincoln Cemetery. Leighton G. Harron, superintendent of the central station of the Bureau of Pisheries and in charge of the bu- reau’s hatchery at Fort Humphrey, dled while at work at the hatchery yester- day, after being stricken suddenly. Mr. Harron, who was 71 years old, was widely known among fishermen and conservationists and was considered an authority on the raising and breeding of fish. He had charge of the Bureau of Fisheries exhibits at many of the larger expositions in past years. He had been connected with the bureau for more than 40 years, serving in several capacities, including the posi- tion of seine captain in 1885. He was for a number of years in charge of the bureau’s hatchery at Bryans Point and last July took charge of transferring fish from the latter place to the new hatchery at Fort Humphrey. Mr. Har- ron was a native of Prince Georges County, Md. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. | Irene D. Harron, and three sons, B. \P Harron of Los Angeles, W. L.
