, “ FIVE DIE AS PLAN CRASHES N HEXIO Four Americans Kil|ed—None*an Heard as Harvard Survive Wreck—Failure of Motor Is Blamed. By the Associated Press. MEXICO CITY, April 12.—Five lives | were counted as the cost.yesterday of the worst accident in Mexican aviation ‘history. Four of those dead were Ameri- cans, and the fifth a Mexican resident of this capital. None of those aboard the plane survived. The accident occurred yesterday at ‘Tampico, when a Mexicon Aviation Co. plane bound from Mexico City to Brownsville, Tex. crashed as it took off for the Texas border. The plane's single motor failed when it was not more than 100 feet in the air, and the pilot never was able to regain control. Engineer Is Killed. Among those killed was Farrell Frazer, American engineer, who had re- cently moved to New York after com- pleting construction of a bridge across the Rio Grande at Brownsville. Frazer ‘was returning from Mexico City, where he had visited his fiancee, Miss Grace Parkinson. of Houston, Tex. In addition to Mr. Frazer, the vic- tims were: Dennis W. Taylor, pilot, an American; Senor J. S. Fernan- dez of Mexico City; Elaine Newcombe, another pilot who was traveling as a passenger, and a man named Robinson, who.was said to be a taxi driver in Brownsville. Both Taylor and Newcombe formerly were in_the employ of the Ford Motor Co. of Detroit. Newcombe was a grad- uate of the Army Flying School at Kelly Field, San Antonio, Tex. Frazer's Fiancee Collapses. Miss Parkinson was at an afternoon tea with other members of the Amer- ican colony in Mexico City and was discussing with them her approaching wedding in June when word was brought her of her flance's death. She collapsed and was placed in the care of physicians. The ministry of communications or- deyed an air expert to Tampico to sur- vey the wreckage, which was to be left unmoved, and determine if possible the cause of the accident. Since all aboard died, however, it was believed the cause of ‘the failing motor might never be known. Witnesses said it had just risen, the motor went dead and apparently tgleldpilut tried to guide it back to the eld. A few minutes after the crash an- other plane hopped off for Brownsville to. complete the Mexico City flight— mius passengers but with the salvaged mail bags. TERMINAL Tennessee Directs Reading of Bible In Public Schools Lchoes of Anti-Evolution Graduate Sponsors Bill. By the Associated Press. ASHVILLE, Tenn,, April 12.—Echoes of ‘Tennessee's anti-evolution law sounded in the Senate chamber Tues- day when a law requiring that the Bible be read in public schools passed at insistence of a Harvard graduate, but over the protests of a school teacher from the hills ¢f East Tennessee. ‘The bill permits the teacher or stu- dents to select passages from the Bible to be read, without comment, each day. Senator Clark of Washington, Republi- can and a graduate of a denominational school, made the only speech against the measure. “We are making a mis- take” he said. “Christianity and the Bible do not need legislative protection.” Senator Jack Keefe of Nashville, Har- vard graduate, radio announcer and attorney, contended the Bible was a “literary gem” and should be read.
