SON OF BANKRUPT SUIDE TESTIFES One of Six to Make State- ments at Secret Hearing Held in Moscowitz Probe. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, April 11.—Sidney Le- vine, whose father committed suicide after his affairs were thrown into bank- ruptey, was one of six witnesses to tes- tify yesterday at a secret hearing being held by the congressional subcommittee investigating charges against Federal Judge Grover Moscowitz. The judge was accused in Congress of having shown favoritism in bankruptcy cases to members of his former law firm. Levine charged in an affidavit pre- sented to the Speaker of the House of Representatives several weeks ago that he was threatened with jail unless his mother surrendered a $40,000 mortgage to meet the fees of former legal associ- ates of Judge Moscowitz and that con- tempt proceedings against him were withdrawn when his motHer turned over the mortgage. Other witnesses were A. John Fyfe, J. C. Rochester, Samuel Turner, Jacob Holtzman and Charles B. Law. Fyfe was formerly treasurer of the bankrupt Hartsdale-Columbia Corporation and Rochester is president of its creditors. ‘Turner, Holtzman and Law were be- lieved to have been questioned about the $5,000,000 equity receivership of Tur- ners Towers, a Brooklyn hotel corpora- tion, of which Turner was president. Holtzman is Turner’s attorney and Law was attorney in the rccel\crship LAKE COTTAGES FLOODED. Winds and High Water Threaten Much Damage in Ontario. WINDSOR, Ontario, April 11 (#).— Driven by a heavy northeast wind and aggravated by the high Spring water level, which is more than a foot above the 10-year average, waters of Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair have flooded Summer cottages and endangered 1,500 acres of valuable reclaimed land at_Erieau. Waves were breaking over the dykes at Erieau and the approaches to a| bridge on the fourth line road were washed out, cutting off highway ‘com- munication with outside points. Men were working with sandbags raising the dykes in an effort to save the valuable market gardens in the re- claimed area from being flooded. 5&5 SPOTLESS Ex-Soldier Returns Service Bars He Is Not Entitled To The War Department has re- ceiveg an unusual contribution to its conscience fund in the form of “service bars from a former service man who zaid he was not entitled to them.
