UNIVERSITY WOMEN HONOR FIRST LADY Mrs. Hoover Guest at Recep- “tion at Club, 800 Shaking Her Hand. Herbert Heover turned from bgr role of First Lady yesterday to par- ticipate simply as “ guest” at a reception for about 800 women, most of whom were her cotemporaries in various colleges when she was just Lou Henry, co-ed. She accepted the hospitality of the American Assoclation of University ‘Women, of which she has been a mem- ber here for seven years, . and she promised during the afternoon to help it e]l(flemm another guest next week. The solemn dignity that has marked Mrs. Hoover's public appearances since March4 was entirely absent yenemy from the moment she entered the clous clubhouse to the time she farewell. She chatted vivaclously with other guests, apparently happy to greet them simply ‘as fellow clubwomen. Kappa Kappa Gamma Member. Mrs. Hoover in college was & mem- ber of the Kappa Kappa Gamma So- rority. Brown transparent velvet was the frock she chose for the afternoon. It was cut with a straight blouse and tlered skirt, and was won with a darker fulsome cape wrap with a fur scarf. Mrs. Hoover was assisted in recelving b{ Mrs. Karl Fenning, president of the club, who was dressed in wistaria chif- fon—a flufly, jacketed tea gown. Shakes Hands With Each. They stood in the great dining room of the clubhouse, the guests passing through the lounge on the first floor, up the steirs, and through a small dining room to them. Mrs. Hoover shook ‘hands with each one. The guests passed back down the stairs for tea and music in the lounge. Later Mrs. Hoover had tea and spent u‘veral moments chatting ith Mrs. Fenning. ers Hoover’s sister, Mrs. J. H. Large, accompanied her, as did Miss Ruth Fessler, White House secretary. Mrs. Large, who was dressed in blue, was a co-ed at Leland Stanford University, as ‘was Mrs. Hoover. The name of the guest whom the First Lady will assist the club in enter- taining has not been announced. Mrs. Hoover gave assurance, however, that she would participate actively in wel- coming her.
