SPRING OPERA TOUR " TO BEGIN APRIL 14 Thirty Principals and Four Conductors Will Be in Met- ropofitan Personnel. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, April 2—The Metro- politan Opera Co. will bring to a close its New York season with a Sunday concert April 14, two weeks from last night, and on the following day will start on its annual Spring tour. The last opera will be given Saturday night, April 13, Massenet’s “Manon,” with Lu- creze Bori and Beniamino Gigli. More than 30 principals and 4 conductors will go on the Spring tour, which will take the company as far south as Atlanta and as far west as Cleveland. It will open in Baltimore April 15, and close in Rochester, N. Y., May 7. In all, counting members of the chorus and ballet and the stage crew, managerial staff, etc, there will be nearly 200 in the company. ‘Among the leading sopranos to make the entire trip will be Mme. Borl and Rosa Ponselle; Florence Easton will join the company in Atlanta and Marian Taliey in Cleveland. Julia Claus- sen, Henrlette Wakefield and Ina Bourskaya will be among the contralto vrincipals, and the leading tenors will be Gigli, Edward Johnson, Giacomo Lauri-Volpl and Armand Tokatyan. Giuseppe Danise, Giuseppe de Luca and Lawrence Tibbeit will be the leading baritones, and Pavel Ludikar and Elon Rothier the leading bassos. The con- ductors will be Gieuseppe Bamboschek, Vincenzo Bellezza, Tullio Serafin and Louis Hasselmans. Several of the operas that always pack the Metropolitan Opera House will be included in the tralveling re- pertoire. Among these are: Bellini’s “Norma,” with Rose Ponselle and Fred- erick Jagel; Massenet’s “Manon” and Puccini’s “La Rondine.” The latter two | with Bori and Gigli. Of the Wagnerian operas, “Lohengrin” will be included, with Florence Easton as Elsa, Edward John- son as Lohengrin and Julia Claussen as Ortrud. In the repertoire also will be Montemezzi's “Love of Three Kings,” with Mme. Bori in the leading fempinine part. This opera opened the season at the Metropolitan Opera House last Oc- tober, Rosa Ponselle singing the lead. The first week of the tour will be divid- ed between Baltimore and Washington. CONDEMNS GUNPLAY BY DISTRICT POLICE Highlands Association Protests Promiscuous Firing of Revolvers in Pursuing Suspected Criminels.
