Approval was given to the Cramton bill for the purchase of park lands by the Sixteenth Street HMighlands Citi- zens' Association at a meeting in Sixth Presbyterian Church, Sixteenth and Kennedy streets, last night. Repre- sentative Cramton was to have ad- dressed the meeting, but was unable to attend. In a letter he pointed out the many advantages to accrue to the Na- tions Capital through acquiring needed land and for the maintenance of its natural beauties. E. C. Snyder, chairman of a special committee to promote the idea of con- verting the abandoned Sixteenth Street | Reservoir site into sunken gardens, in reporting the progress of the committee said that the aid of Mrs. John B. Hen- derson had been obtained. Mrs. Hen- derson, he said, was enthusiastic about the project, especially as it would mean added beauty to the thoroughfare, which she always has championed. Because of the proposal being of city-wide inter- est, action was taken directing the sec- retary to communicate with each of the citizens' associations in the Dis- trict, urging their support. ‘The association also favored chang- ing of the name of Sixteenth street to that of President avenue. The plan as proposed for the old reservoir would be to establish gardens with fountains, trees, shrubbery, walks and bandstand. Opposition was voted on a proposal to rezone the south side of Kennedy street, east of Fourteenth street, to permit semi-detached houses. The parks and playgrounds committee was directed to take steps to have Four- teenth street, north of Kennedy street, improved by the installation of curbing and by planting shrubbery in the center parking. Charles Moore, president of the Fine Arts Commission, will be invited to ad- dress the next meeting of the asso- ciation, which is scheduled for March 11, as the regular meeting night would be March 4. President Dr. Lewis J. Battle presided. HENRY STIMSON IS SEEN AS SECRETARY OF STATE | New York Times Dispatch Says He Has Accepted Position in Hoover Cabinet. By the Assoclated Press.
