Midwinter Concert Sunday Night First Appearance of Season, ‘The Midwinter concert of the George- town University Glee Club, marking its initial appearance this season, will be held Sunday night at 8:15 o'clock in Gaston Hall. The club will be assisted by the Collegians, a student orchestra, under the direction of Edmund S. Fish. Henry Deane Benson, president of the 1929 Glee Club, has built up an aggre- gatfon of 48 es. ROME, January 24.—The Vatican yes- terday announced a long list of new knights of the Order of Malta, includ- ing many Americans, and also the con- ferring of the Order of Malta upon several lay leaders of the church who have already received knighthood. The latter category includes James A. Far- rell, president of the United States Steel ~ Corporation, and Morgan J. O'Brien, former judge of the Supreme Court of New York. The Senate committee on education and labor has been advised that the executive committee of the Council of Social Agencies at its meeting Tues- {day gave its approval to the House bill designed to glve the residents of the District the same privileges given those of the States in the vocational rehabilitation of persons disabled in industry. Willard C. Smith was appointed by the committee to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Dr. Edward T. Devine as vice president of the council. Mrs. Fernando Cuniberti and Mrs. W. A. Roberts, executive secretary, were nemed as representative members to the board of trustees of the Com- munity Chest. Maj, Carey Brown of the National Capital Park and Planning Commis- sion explained in detail the districting of the city, which had been accom- plished by a committee of the council, and announced that these divisions had been accepted by the Census Bureau for the 1930 census statistics, Officials pointed out that this will be especially helpful to social agencies in tabulating social statistics which will be made by the census and applying results to their own district divisions. The Boys' Club, the Boy Scouts and the Columbia Poly- technic Institute for the Blind were admitted to membership in the organ- ization. STABBER IS SOUGHT. Police Hunt Colored Man Accused of Wielding Weapon. Police are searching today for a col- ored man who is said to have stabbed and seriously wounded Richard Rich- ardson, colored, 34 years old, of 56 I Street northeast, while he was standing in front of his home. The injured man had nine wounds in his head, hands and left side. He was treated at Casualty Hospital by Dr. Louis Jimal. | J WARDMAN OBTAINS BIEBER BUILDING Structure Included in B Street Property Now in Process of Condemnation, ‘The Bieber Building, located on the south side of B street between Thirteen- and-a-half and Fourteenth streets southwest, which has been occupied by offices of the Department of Agriculture for 14 years or more, has been pur- chased from the estate of Mrs. Hen- rietta M. Halliday by the Wardman Corporation, it was announced today by Harry Wardman, president of the company. The Wardman Corporation exercised an option to purchase which members of the firm have held for about 10 years. Wardman for a number of years has had a leasehold on the property and has been subleasing it to the Government, ‘The Bieber Building is.an eight-story structure, with basement. The consid- eration in the deal was not made pub- lic. Contracts for the purchase were closed yesterday with the American Se- curity & Trust Co. as trustees for the Halliday estate.
