L DOVLE VICTIM OF HEART ATTACK Be Held in Baltimore This Afternoon. James J. Doyle, president of the | Washington, Baltimore & Annapolis Rallroad, died at his home, in Baltimore, | shortly before midnight Saturday, after | being stricken with a heart agtack exn‘;-ner in the evening. He was 53 years | old. Mr. Doyle had planned to attend the annual dinner of the Alfalfa Club in this city Saturday night as the guest of Thomas P. Littlepage, who is a vice | president, director and counsel of the | W.. B. & A. Mr. Doyle called Mr. Lit- tlepage and told him he would be un- able to attend, but expressed the view that his illness was not serious. Later | he was seized with a heart attack as he | was getting out of bed and fell to the | floor. Regarded as an expert in electric railway trgnsportation, Mr. Doyle also was widely known in other public utility circles. Aided in Building Lines. Born in Cleveland, Mr. Doyle after | attending the public schools there had his first railroad experience with the Pennsylvania Railroad. After a num-| Traction Co. as construction engineer | in 1889 and assisted in building a num- ber of that company’s lines. His success with that road led to his | going to Baltimore. In 1907 the W. B. & A. was under construction and a construction expert needed, so Mr. | Doyle accepted the position. He was made vice president and gen- eral manager in 1901, succeeding John N. Shannahan. Mr. Doyle remained in that position until June, 1927, shortly before the W., B. & A. was purchased by the Consolidated Gas & Electric Co. as a means of extending its electric utilities field outside of Baltimore. During his service with the road Mr. Doyle was asked to make several sur- veys of the physical properties of Mid- western gas and electric companies. Mr. Doyle had long been active on various committees of the American Electric Railway Association. He was a member of the Maryland Elkridge Hunt and Sherwood Clubs. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lil- lian H. Doyle, and five sisters, Mrs, Charles Greenslit, Mrs. Edward Glouth, Mrs. Grace Huston, Mrs. Charles Mont- castle and Miss Helen Doyle, and two Edward J. and Raymond Doyle, all of Cleveland. Funeral services will be conducted at his residence in Baltimore this after- ternoon at 3 o'clock. The body will be taken to Cleveland for burial.
