VETERANS' REUNION INCITY IS INDORSED Chamber of Commerce Backs | Bill for Union and Con- federate Convention. A joint reunion in Washington of vet- erans of the Northern and Southern | armies of the Civil War, proposed by | Representative Howard of Nebraska, was indorsed in principle by the direc- tors of the Washington Chamber of Commerce at their meeting last night at the Homer Building. M. A. Leese, | past president of the chamber, was named to represent the chamber at a | hearing on the bill of Mr. Howard to be held tomorrow by the House com- | mittee on judiciary. The reunion of the Blue and Gray would be held here during 1929. The chamber directors last night also referred to a special committee | for study a proposal by Col. W. O.| Tufts suggesting establishment of a | Junior Chamber of Commerce for Washington, composed of younger men of the city, and from which they | might be graduated into the senior | chamber. Col. A resolution authorizing the American | National Red Cross to erect an addi- tional building on the square between Seventeenth, Eighteenth, D and E streets was introduced in the Senate yesterday by Senator Fess, Republican, Ohio. ‘The proposed structure would be an office building, replacing a temporary structure erected on part of the square during the war. Scnator Fess said he would recom- mend that provision be made in the resolution to have the Government pflr- ticipate with the Red Cross in meeting the cost of the building.
