18’ SOCIETY The Chief Executive and Mrs. Coolidge Leave Today to Spend Thanksgiving in the Mountains. HE President and Mrs. Coolidge, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Stearns, will leave today to spend Thanksgiving in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, where they will occupy the Swannanoa Country Club. The Chief Executive and Mrs. Cool- jdge were entertained at dinner last evening by the Vice President and Mrs. Dawes. It was the first of the dinners given annually by members of the cabi- net in honor of the President and First Lady. The company included Gen. John J. Pershing, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Bliss of New York, Mr. and Mrs. George B. Dryden of Evanston, 1i.; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ames Williams of ‘Boston, Mr. and Mrs. Beeman G. Dawes of Columbus, Ohio, brother and sister-in-law_ of the Vice President; Miss Mary Randolph and Mr. W. W. Mills of Marietta, Ohlo. Vice President and Mrs. Dawes Guests at Spanish Embassy Tonight. The Vice President and Mrs. Dawes will attend the dinner to be given this evening by the Ambassador of Spain and Senora de Padilla in honor of H. R. H. the Infante Don Alfonso of Orleans, Spain; H. R. H. the Infanta Donna Beatrize and their son, H. R. H. the Infante Don Alvaro. A reception will follow the dinner. The Secretary of the Navy and Mrs. wilbur have gone to Wayne, Pa. 'f) spend Thanksgiving with the Secretary's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Paist. The Ambassador of Cuba and Senora de Ferrara will return today from New York, where they spent several days and last evening attended the Metro- politan Opera. The Ambassador of the French Re- public, M. Paul Claudel, was the guest in whose honor Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stuart Alden entertained at dinner last evening. The other guests were Mrs. Gibson Fahnestock, Mrs. James Carroll Frazer, Mrs. Charles Woodhouse, Col. and Mrs. Noel Bailey, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Myers, Mrs. Joseph E. Washington and Mr. Willilam Brantley. The Minister of Switzerland and Mmme. Peter went to New York this morning to spend Thanksgiving with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Georges Peter. The Minister and Mme. Peter will return to Washington the first of next week. Senator and Mrs. Lawrence D. Tyson of Tennessee have returned to Washing- ton for the Winter and are in their home at 1601 R street. They will en- tertain friends informally at Thanks- giving midday dinner tomorrow and in the afternoon will leave for New York for a few days’ stay at the Plaza. They will be jolned there by their daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Gilpin of Virginia and with her and other friends will attend the Army-Stanford game Saturday. Senator and Mrs. Tasker L. Oddie spent the Summer at their home in Nevada, and have returned to Wash- ington and opened their house at 2123 Leroy place for the Winter. Senator and Mrs. William J. Harris will have with them for the Thanksgiv- ing holidays their daughter, Miss Julia Harris, who will arrive today from Byrn Mawr. Miss Harris will attend the foot ball game tomorrow at Charlottesville between Virginia and North Carolina. The Un of State and Mrs, J. Reuben Clark, jr., have as their guest in their it_at the Mayflower their daughter, Mrs. Mervyn Sharp Ben- nion, wife of Comdr. Bennion, U. 8. N., who is on duty aboard the U. S. S. The assistant solicitor of the State Department and Mrs. Joseph Richard- son Bacon have with them for the ‘Thanksgiving holidays the schoolgirl cousin of Mr. Bacon, Miss Janet Ger- man of Maplewood, N. J. Miss Laura Frances Ottls, debutante niece of the Secretary of State and Mrs. Kellogg, has returned to her home in St. Paul after spending a fortnight in Washington. Col. Raiph E. Ingram, U. S. A, and Mrs. Ingram of Skaneateles, N. Y., an- nounce the engagement of their daugh- ter, Dorothy Anne, to ‘Mr, John Mawat Bright, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willlam Bright of Niagara. Falls, Ontario. Miss Ingram attended Friends’ School in Washington and is a graduate of the Roland Park Country School, in Balti- more. Maj. Laurence D. The recently appointed Egyptian con- sul in New York, Mr. Anis A. Raphael, is in Washington for a few days, and is stopping at the Wardman Park Hotel. The former Egyptian consul, Mr. A. Ghaleb, who has been appointed to the Egyptian legation in Berlin, who, with Mme. Ghaleb, passed the week end at the Wardman Park Hotel, has returned to New York to sail for his new post. Lieut. The Rev. and Mrs. Ze Barney Phillips will entertain at dinner this evening for their debutante daughter, Miss Faith Phillips, preceding the Episcopal ball. Judge Alva E. Steadman of Honolulu, who is in the United States on a two months’ leave of absence, has arrived in Washington and is at the Mayflower, where Mrs. Steadman joined him last night for Thanksgiving, arriving here from New York. They will leave Fri- day for San Francisco and will sail shortly for Hawail. Former Secretary of the Treasury, Mr. Willlam G. McAdoo, is now in Washington and has taken a suite at the Wardman Park Hotel. Mrs. McAdoo and their two small daughters will re- main in their home in Los Angeles through the Winter.
