Mrs. Calvin Coolidge. who, with the President, occupies the home that is the longed-for residence of citizens through- out the Nation, heads the list of thou- sands who have inspected the model homes sponsored this year by The Star. The First Lady of the Land, it was learned today, slipped quietly away from her duties at the White House a few days ago to pay a visit to The Star model dwelling at the corner of Ken- nedy drive and Chamberlin avenue, Kenwood, Md Arriving at this large colonial dwell- ing at 10:30 am. in order to avoid crowds of other visitors, Mrs. Coolidge occupied the better part of an hour studying the features of the dwelling, noting items of special interest here and there. She was accompanied only by a personal guardian of the Secret Service. While Mrs. Coolidge was at the model home other visitors were denied admittance, so that she might have en- tire freedom in inspecting the dwell- ing. Exhibition of the model home at, 4422 Q street, Foxhall Village, tomorrow will cnter its fourth and final weck, under the auspices of The Star. f The house is open daily to visitors from 9 am. to 9 pm. It may be reached by driving out Q street to Wis- consin avenue, north to Reservoir road, west to Forty-fourth street, south to Q street and west a half block. Also, it may be reached by street car to Foxhall Station, about three blocks south of the viliage, and by bus from Dupont Circle. This interesting English group dwell- ing' contains features of special interest | to women folk as well as men, and many phases of its planning, .decoration and equipment have brought forth com- ments from visitors. Kitchen Carefully Planned. For one thing, there is the specially designed kitchen. Equipment is planned to minimize the number of steps and work of the housewife, as well as to add to the attractiveness of her surround- nary duties. The other cupboard has a wide, wooden, tablelike top over its lower portion. | In one of the cupboards is space for | dusting mop and other necessary kitch- en ecquipment and a built-in ironing board that folds out of sight. The kitchen also contains a cooking range of latest model, and on the floor is linoleum that has been cemented to: the floor to prevent raising or warping. Adjoining the kitchen at the rear of the house, and also overlooking the neat English rock garden in the rear yard, is a breakfast nook in which has been built specially designed furniture, where the morning meal may be served with- |out ~disturbing the adjoining dining room. Mechanical Refrigerator. At the inner end of the breakfast nook 1s a large mechanical refrigera- tor, handily placed in relation to the reakfast set, and over this is another large cupboard where dishes and other equipment may be placed. Cupboard space, so important to the housewife, also is available through- out the three floors of the house.
