LIGT LESS AGTIVE General Market Develops Narrower Trend During Most of Session. BY CHARLES F. SPEARE. | Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, November 19.—Less activity today in convertible bonds, which represented over 25 per cent of last week's trading of $60,000,000 in | listed issues, had the effect of narrow- | ing the general market. This group of bonds was heavy during the greater part of the session. Mem- | bers of it opened quite strong and then imlhrr lost nearly all of the initial ad- | vance or went under Saturday's prices. } Some of the declines at midday were | 4'2 points in Public Service of New Jersey 4!us, 2 in ‘Andes Copper Ts, 2 in J. Kayser 5lys, 1 in Anaconda 7s, 14 in Barnsdall 65 and % in Colon Oil 6s. Liquid Carbonic 6s were up 4 points. The Italian convertibles acted better than the domestic list, gaining from 2 to 415 points, but subsequently losing a portion of this. Aside from the convertibles there were |a few issues that exhibited strength. | Among them were U. S. Rubber 58, | Walworth 6s and Interboro Rapid | Transit 5s. Certainteed Products 5128 | had another sinking spell, and at their | low level were off nearly 10 points from | the best of the year. | Bond dealers report a very good de- ‘mand “off the board” for high-grade |rails and public utilities. The pur- chasers are mainly insurance companies and banks. They have been steadily accumulating these issues in spite of the | high rates for money and the new level at which bonds have established them- selves since the turn in the market came in September. In quite a few in- stances banks show a disposition to be- gin building up their bond accounts and to release funds that they have had on call for this purpose. Several railroad issues of considerable size are in prospect. The Chesapeake | & Ohio has made application to the i Interstate Commerce Commission to issue and sell $30,000,000 of 4! per cent refunding and improvement bonds. The, company has $3,698,000 5s that are due’ on January 1 and $31,390,000 conver- | tible 4155 which mature February 1, 1930. CHICAGO, November 19.—Stocks of turkeys in storage should be ample to supply the Thanksgiving trade this year. The total is now 4,803,000 pounds, as compared with 6,208,000 on October 1, and 4,170,000 at this time last year. The supply of broiler chickens is over 2,000,000 pounds heavier than a year ago. 100% 100% 821y 100 100ty B8Rl 82 1023 100% 89 8B4 82 82 D. C., MONDAY, ATI.C AR Warm Weather Held Cause of Small Business—Tur- key Receipts Light. A -generally draggy condition of the market was reported this morning, not an unusual condition the first trading day of the week. Continued warm weather has had its effect both upon shippers and city wholesalers, and not until there is a decided change in the temperature do merchants expect busi- ness to pick up. ‘Turkeys for the Thanksgiving holi- day market continue to reach here, but not in large quantities, and many of them will be held over until next week before being dressed. Green vegetables, some from nearby and some from distant States, were as plentiful this morning as during the past several days, prices continuing about the same as those quoted at the close of last week’s market. Fruits also continue plentiful. Ap- ples, most plentiful of fruits, were of- fered around $1 a bushel this morning for country stock, selected and graded from distant States selling at higher prices. Practically no change in prices were reported today. Today's Wholesale Prices—Jobbers’ Prices Slightly Higher. Butter—One-pound prints, 51a52; tub, 50a51; store-packed, 30a32.
