FOUR-YEAR FIGHT WON IN BUS CONTROVERSY Citizens Get Permission for Line Over Russell Road Between Al- exandria and Washington. Residents of Jefferson Park and Vir- ginia Highlands, in Arlington County, Va., have won a four-year fight with the signing of an order by the Virginia Corporation Commission granting the Alexandria, Barcroft & Washington bus line permission to run a line from Alexandria to Washington over Russell road. The route would follow the present lines from Alexandria along Russell road to Mount Vernon boulevard. It leaves the boulevard at Addison avenue, running east through Virginia High- lands and Aurora Hills to the lower Alexandria road, where it joins the present lower road route once more. No date has been set for the start- THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, ing of the first bus, but the service must be started in 30 days or the order will be vacated. At the office of the concern it was said that the busses will be started on a 45-minute schedule and that this will be bettered as business develops. The new route will be oper- ated with additional busses and will not take away any transportation from the routes already in service. ————e Air service between Malaya and the Netherland East Indies will be started next January. “PEEPER” FINED $500.
