The main ceremony will be held on Saturday. After resting at the detached palace in Nagoya, the Em- peror ahd Empress Nagako will con- tinue their journey tomorrow. The Emperor traveled from Tokio over a railroad line carefully patrolled by police, members of the army reserve and railway employes. At every station a company of troops was ?ntdutg as a cover sleeveless safeguard. Every foot of track over B Thich he passed was under careful ob- frocks of moire, servation. 2 3 - 1t was estimated that at least 75,000 h satin, chiffon, men, soldiers, reservists, police and rail- transparent velvet road workers were charged with the 2 and velvet combi- nations. The Emferor began his westward progress with the rising of the sun, which is the national emblem of his country. Twenty thousand troops of the imperial bodyguard and the first division lined the short route along which he passed on going from Chiyota Castle, embodiment of the old Japan, to_the modern Tokio railroad station. Bugles sounding the imperial salute marked the progress of the ruler, who acknowledged the honors with a slight bow. He wore the gold, red and black uniform of a generalisssimo, with a white plumed cap. As he passed, the crowds in silent reverence uncovered their heads and bowed low. Horses, but no_automobiles, were in the parade. Close behind the Emperor was the four-horse carriage of the Empress. She was stylishly dressed in a large sky-blue hat with a sweeping White plume and a soft blue gown. She rode along modestly with downcast eyes. Next was the carriage of Prince Ko- tochito Kan-in, and then that of the Emperor’s youngest brother, Prince Chi- chibu, with his recent bride, the former Setsuko Matsudaira. About 300 foreigners, newspaper men, residents and a few American tourists watched the procession from assigned places which they had occupied since * e Jsne Stusrt Will Shop for You—Franklin 7100 Santa’s Newest Wheel Toys Are In Toy Town morrow, is one of the finest examples of the castles built in Japan during the great military days of the early seven- teenth century.
